Sofia's journey into retirement coaching began in 2010 when she witnessed her own parents struggle with the psychological challenges of leaving their careers. That experience sparked something — she realized there was a significant gap in personalized support for Portuguese retirees, especially in the Algarve where many settle after reforma. She pursued formal training in life coaching and gerontological psychology, completing her Master's at the University of Lisbon in 2014. Since then, she's worked with the Algarve Regional Health Authority and several community organizations, designing evidence-based programs that address the unique cultural and social aspects of retirement in Portugal. Her breakthrough came in 2018 when she established the first structured community support network specifically for Algarve retirees — it now operates across 12 municipalities and has reached over 800 people.
Sofia believes that retirement isn't an ending but a significant life chapter requiring intentional planning, meaningful community connection, and a deliberate mindset shift. She's developed and facilitated more than 40 active ageing workshops across the Algarve, focusing on maintaining social engagement and mental resilience after reforma. At Naltex Unipessoal, she combines her clinical experience with research-backed insights to create practical resources that help retirees navigate the emotional, social, and practical dimensions of their new phase. Her specialty is turning the fear of retirement into the foundation of something better — not just staying engaged, but finding genuine purpose and community in this next chapter.

Retirement isn't just a career change — it's a fundamental shift in identity, daily structure, and sense of purpose. Sofia works with retirees who are struggling with the emotional weight of reforma. She helps them navigate the loss of workplace identity, rediscover meaning outside of work, and build new daily routines that feel fulfilling. Her approach combines practical life coaching with psychological insights about aging and identity. Whether someone's facing an unexpected early retirement or has been planning for years, she meets them where they are.
One of the biggest risks retirees face is isolation. Social disconnection affects physical health, mental resilience, and overall life satisfaction. Sofia has designed and implemented community support networks across the Algarve that bring retirees together around shared interests and challenges. These aren't just social clubs — they're structured communities where people build meaningful relationships, share resources, and support each other through the realities of aging. She knows how to build networks that actually stick, where people show up because they genuinely belong.
Sofia leads evidence-based workshops on mindset shifts, resilience, and psychological well-being for retirees. These aren't motivational talks — they're practical, research-backed sessions where participants learn concrete tools for managing age-related challenges, building confidence, and maintaining mental clarity. She covers topics like managing anxiety about aging, maintaining cognitive sharpness, navigating health changes, and finding joy in new phases of life. Participants leave with frameworks they can actually use in their daily lives.
Sofia designs active ageing programs that go beyond fitness. Her programs integrate physical activity, cognitive engagement, social connection, and purpose-driven activities. She's worked with health authorities and community organizations to develop programs that are culturally appropriate for Portuguese retirees and sustainable long-term. She understands the barriers people face — mobility issues, transportation challenges, cultural expectations — and builds programs that work around real life, not theoretical ideals.
